Akzo Nobel to Appoint New General Counsel

Akzo Nobel has announced that following a distinguished 18-year career with the company, Jan Eijsbouts, General Counsel and Director of Legal Affairs, will retire on June 1, 2007. Having spent 18 years working in various international legal capacities at Philips and DSM, Jan joined Akzo Nobel in 1989 as Senior Legal Counsel for the chemicals Group. In 1994, he joined the corporate organization as Senior Corporate Counsel before taking over as General Counsel in 1999. He has supported many key events in Akzo Nobel's history, such as the merger of Akzo and Nobel, the acquisition of Courtaulds, the divestment of Acordis, the establishment of the company's Business Principles, and is currently preparing for the separation of Organon BioSciences. The company has also announced that Jan Karel van der Staay (51) will join Akzo Nobel on April 1, 2007. He will be appointed General Counsel and Director of Legal Affairs as of June 1, 2007. Van der Staay, a Dutch national, joins from NUON, where he has held the position of General Counsel and Secretary of the Board of Management since 2004. Prior to joining NUON, he was responsible for Legal Affairs at the Rabobank group and also worked for many years in a legal capacity at Philips, where he held the position of Head of Legal Services, Government Relations and Secretary of the Board for Philips in the Netherlands.
