Sinopec and DuPont form joint venture to produce EVA in China

DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers (P&IP) and Sinopec formed a joint venture to produce Ethylene vinyl acetate resins (EVA) in China. The location for the plant will be at the existing facility of Sinopec Beijing Yanshan Company in Beijing. Start-up of EVA production is planned for late 2008.

The joint venture combines the technological and manufacturing expertise of the partners and will supply competitively a broad range of specialized high-quality EVA products. The new facility will help meet the fast growing demand for EVA products in China. The offerings will serve market segments such as packaging, adhesives, printing, wire and cable, footwear, and apparel.

This joint venture is 55 percent owned by Sinopec and 45 percent owned by DuPont, with an annual production capacity of about 60 kilotons. The combination of the manufacturing expertise of Sinopec and the latest EVA technology from DuPont P&IP will open up new business opportunities to serve different market segments in China. The new facility will enhance the existing manufacturing capability of Sinopec and capture the rapid emerging market demand.
