Successful year for BASF IT Services

08-Mar-2011 - Germany

BASF IT Services Holding GmbH posted total sales of approximately 435 million Euros in 2010. This equals an increase of approximately 20 percent compared to the previous year.

The positive development is due in particular to the expansion of project business activities within BASF. The IT company has also expanded its service range for the BASF Group in the Managed Services area, which includes operation and optimization of infrastructure and applications.

In spite of difficult general conditions, the IT service provider was able to earn approximately 34 million Euros in 2010 in business conducted with customers outside of the BASF Group. "We see a good foundation for business in the current year. We've concluded new contracts with a number of customers and have expanded existing agreements," explains Andreas Biermann, Managing Director at BASF IT Services Holding GmbH. Thus for example a new frame agreement concluded with Continental AG covers among other things provision of the complete range of SAP application management for the ContiTech division. "Based on our long term experience and industry know-how we can offer our customers interesting, flexibly tailored packages in our core areas SAP hosting and SAP consulting. This applies particularly to customers in the upmarket medium-sized business segment," Biermann continues.

Within the BASF Group, in 2010 the IT of former Ciba was integrated into the information systems of BASF and the takeover of system operations was completed. At the same time, in the project "Energy Efficient Processing" the IT experts migrated several hundred servers in the BASF data centers to the latest virtualization technologies. Furthermore, last year the service provider rendered IT support for the Accelerator project in which BASF is harmonizing and optimizing its global planning processes as well as processes for sales and procurement, including complaint management.

"In the course of global networking and consolidation, 2011 will also see further increases in project volumes in the BASF IT world," Biermann continues. For example, preparations are currently underway for a large-scale project in which all BASF employees around the world will receive new, standardized PCs. Another comprehensive IT project is associated with the acquisition of Cognis, which took place last December. In the area of SAP, following the launch of the global project ONE in 2010 the various SAP systems at BASF are to be raised to a new standard by the end of 2013.
