WACKER SILICONES Plans to Sell Curtain Wall Bonding Sealant Business to Sika
WACKER SILICONES intends to sell its curtain wall bonding and sealant business to Sika AG of Baar, Switzerland by January 1, 2004. A letter of intent, recently signed by the two companies, allows Sika to acquire exclusive rights to the ELASTOSIL® IG, ELASTOSIL® SG and VENTOTEC® product lines from WACKER SILICONES. The partners are convinced the new arrangement will provide even better growth perspectives for these silicone sealants. The closing of the transaction depends on the approval by antitrust authorities. The partners have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
ELASTOSIL® silicone sealants are specially developed for challenging applications in glass, metal and natural stone curtain walls. They include silicone weatherseals, products for structural glazing and sealants for double glazing units. The product range is rounded off with VENTOTEC® accessories. WACKER SILICONES developed and successfully marketed these products on the basis of its leading-edge know-how in silicones.
Sika is a world leader in polyurethane-based curtain wall technology (Sikaflex®), with a well-developed marketing organization serving end customers. Its product range did not previously include silicone products. After completion of the transaction, customers will be able to purchase the full range of facade adhesives from Sika as a single supplier.
