24-Aug-2004

Millipore Corporation announced the official opening of its new $29 million state-of-the-art membrane casting manufacturing facility in Jaffrey, New Hampshire. Adjacent to Millipore's current device plant on Prescott Road, the 44,000-square-foot building will enable Millipore to increase production of its ultrafiltration (UF) membranes for worldwide biopharmaceutical markets.

Today, more than 400 local employees as well as state and local officials joined Millipore executives to celebrate the milestone. Governor Craig Benson participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony with opening remarks.

"For the past 30 years, Millipore has been a very strong corporate citizen in New Hampshire," said Craig Benson, Governor of the State of New Hampshire. "This new facility represents not only Millipore's investment in the state, but also the foundation of future biotechnology growth."

Aligned with Millipore's commitment to providing the highest level of quality, the membrane plant houses an advanced Class 100,000 controlled environment and state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. A new wastewater pretreatment plant is located next to the new facility. In addition, a 33,000-square-foot warehouse is currently under construction to connect the new membrane manufacturing facility to the company's device plant. All equipment and processes in the new facility are cGMP compliant to meet the pharmaceutical industry's regulatory standards.

"The Jaffrey opening will enable us to meet the growing worldwide demand for ultrafiltration membrane and devices over the next decade," said Pete Kershaw, Vice President of Worldwide Manufacturing Operations for Millipore. "Major biotech customers were involved in the planning of this new facility to help ensure alignment with the highest standards demanded by the industry we serve."
