3E Company Signs Agreement to Acquire Ariel Research

Leader in BPO-based EH&S Systems for Chemical Users Will Acquire Leader in Content and Managed Services for Chemical Manufacturers

12-Oct-2004

3E Company®, a leading provider of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) based solutions for Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) information and compliance management, announced today that it has signed an agreement to acquire Ariel Research Corporation, a leading provider of research and regulatory data, information systems and services for regulatory compliance, from Eastman Chemical Company. The result of this acquisition is a high value added service company with a strong presence throughout the chemical life cycle, from manufacture through transport and distribution, usage and ultimate waste disposal. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

"The acquisition of Ariel by 3E, two companies with consistent missions, enables 3E to offer a combination of outstanding compliance management services with vastly strengthened data and content that will enable companies to optimize regulatory compliance practices, reduce operational costs, increase efficiencies and better manage and mitigate corporate risk," said Bob Christie, president and CEO of 3E Company. "Ariel has been a highly trusted source in the area of global chemical regulatory compliance, with unique experience across information technology, regulatory data services and EH&S processes. 3E can now fully leverage its own business rules, best practices and industry leading Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) database with the addition of Ariel's regulatory content and compliance tools to deliver world-class information and compliance services."

The products and services of Ariel will become the centerpiece of a new 3E Manufacturer & Distributor Practice aimed at helping manufacturers and distributors cope with increasingly complex regulatory compliance needs and economic pressure to reduce costs. Ariel's regulatory content products and managed services, in areas such as MSDS authoring, will be combined with 3E's existing MSDS hosting, MSDS distribution and emergency response services to create the industry's most comprehensive suite of data and outsourced services. This combination makes a powerful solution to help manufacturers and distributors manage their external communications and distribution requirements for transmitting information to their downstream end-user customers to better help them manage their hazardous communication requirements.
