Bayer MaterialScience expands its European Competence Center

19-Oct-2004

With its new Color Competence Center (CCC) in Filago, Italy, Bayer MaterialScience AG has extended its range of services for the coloring of the polycarbonates Makrolon®, Apec® and their blends. The Center is now able to provide color matches and colored granule samples in small quantities. Bayer MaterialScience has installed special state-of-the-art laboratory extruders for this purpose. In addition, the color specialists in Filago are able to support their customers in all matters involving the coloring of granules. The CCC also offers training courses on this subject, targeted above all at plastics processors. The active development of new colorings and special effects will be another of the Center's future functions.

Walter Carvalho, head of the CCC, gives a brief rundown of the Center's new services: "We offer customers our expertise and technical facilities to help them find solutions to all questions concerned with the coloring of Makrolon®, Apec®, Bayblend® and Makroblend®. The Color Competence Center can deal with a customer order to match a shade or produce a sample within seven working days. If it is really urgent, we also offer an express service."

Apart from meeting customers' specific requests, the aim is for the CCC to be actively involved in the development of new colorings and special effects. Ciro Piermatteo, Color Technology Development Manager at Bayer MaterialScience, says: "We are in constant dialogue with designers to identify new trends and develop the relevant technologies to implement them. Our colleagues from the Competence Centers in Newark, USA, and Map Ta Phut, Thailand, provide us with important input on trends in the relevant regions. This international network is an important basis for new developments."
