Dow Declares Force Majeure for Vinyl Acetate Monomer

22-Aug-2007

The Dow Chemical Company announced that it has declared force majeure for vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) due to essential maintenance of critical plant equipment required at the Texas City, Texas, plant, which is owned by Union Carbide Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dow.

The repairs, which have become necessary during a period of low inventory levels at Dow and extremely tight industry supply, will require Dow to idle the plant for approximately two weeks during the month of September. Effective September 3 and likely through the end of October 2007, Dow will allocate available product in a manner that is fair and reasonable and in accordance with contract terms.
