Starting signal for CyBio Screening GmbH

The new Jena Bio-instrument Centre provides space for research work

22-Sep-2000 - Germany
The opening of the Jena Bio-instrument Centre on 22nd September on the Beutenberg science campus will also give CyBio Screening GmbH its starting signal: The joint venture of CyBio AG and the Hans-Knöll Institut für Naturstoffforschung e.V (Hans Knöll Institute for Natural Substance Research e.V. ) in Jena will commence its work in the newly-established technology and founder centre for biotechnology companies. CyBio Screening GmbH will commence its activities in the new laboratories with ten employees from the ranks of Hans Knöll Institute, which was established in 1992; among them are biologists, chemists and biotechnologists. The CyBio AG subsidiary, directed by Dr. Ralf Thiericke, the former head of the HKI Screening Centre, is to act as a link connecting science and business; this includes application research and the provision of screening services to customers. An important part of the work at CyBio Screening GmbH is parameterisation - the development of optimum conditions for the use of fully-automatic laboratory systems. This will lay the foundations for successful technology transfer at the CyBio subsidiary, making it possible to supply customers with not only the system, but also the corresponding know-how for its successful use in the laboratory. At the heart of the CyBio Screening branch, with its 360 sq. m of laboratory space, is a specially equipped CyBi™-Screen-machine on which test runs of specialised applications can be performed for the company's customers. The CyBio subsidiary is in the best of company in its new location at Winzerlaer Straße 2a: Twelve other biotechnology firms from Jena and its environs will set up facilities in the technology centre of BioCENTIV GmbH (the operator) and the Ernst Abbe Foundation (the developer). In all, the new facility offers the participating companies 2500 sq. m of laboratory space and 400 sq. m for offices and conference rooms.
