Malvern Instruments extends direct operations in Japan

05-Aug-2010 - Japan

Malvern Instruments is extending its direct operations in Japan and has concluded an agreement with Sysmex Corporation, the current distributor of its laboratory-based particle characterization systems, to transfer responsibility for sales and support to Malvern Instruments Japan. Malvern Instruments Japan, which is based in Kobe, was established in February 2003 to manage Malvern’s process business in the region. From 1st October 2010 an expanded organisation will provide sales, technical and applications support across the entire range of Malvern’s particle characterization systems.

“In recent years our business has grown substantially and our product and technology portfolios have undergone considerable diversification. As the market in Japan continues to mature, it makes sound business sense for us to further extend our direct operation and to manage our particle characterization business through a single organization, as we do elsewhere,” said Paul Walker, Managing Director of Malvern Instruments.

Hisashi Ietsugu, President and CEO of Sysmex Corporation, is looking forward to a continuing collaboration with Malvern in the bioscience arena. “Sysmex and Malvern have enjoyed more than ten years of fruitful business collaboration, a period in which there have been considerable developments in the market,” he said. “Following a recent strategic review, we decided it was in the best interests of both companies to transfer the industrial sales and support activities to Malvern. I am very pleased, however, that we will continue our partnership in developing particle characterization instruments for the bio-science community, a very exciting area for future development.”
