DEKRA expands materials testing in Germany

Expert organisation acquires NDT specialist INCOS

20-Jan-2012 - Germany

The international expert organisation DEKRA is acquiring all shares of the testing company INCOS GmbH Ingenieurbüro in Ingolstadt. In doing so, DEKRA significantly expands its portfolio in Germany for non-destructive testing (NDT) of materials.

INCOS has locations in Ingolstadt and Nuremberg, has a staff of 130 employees and achieved sales of around 13.6 million euros in 2010. The company specialises in the classical non-destructive testing of materials, such as radiography, ultrasonic and surface crack testing (PT and MT), leak testing, visual inspections and special testing procedures. The primary fields of activity are the process industry, equipment and pipeline construction and the aerospace industry. In addition, INCOS is responsible for the inspection of technical systems and products, manufacturer approvals and construction and welding inspection.

“With this takeover, DEKRA is consistently pursuing its strategy of targeted acquisitions in the industrial testing area. Especially in the areas of the energy and process industries, we see the need for a stronger customer-oriented alternative to the current providers in Europe”, says Mark Thomä, Member of the Management Board DEKRA SE and head of the DEKRA “Industrial” business unit.

Werner Bollmann, Head of the DEKRA business unit “Material Testing and Inspection”: “We are sustainably strengthening our Material Testing & Inspection business unit. With its strong presence in Southern Germany, INCOS is an ideal extension for our portfolio in order to optimally serve our customers nationwide with our testing services.”

Stephan Schreiner, Managing Director of INCOS: “Through the change in management, we are providing a secure basis for the future of the company. Under the auspices of DEKRA, INCOS can sustainably expand and further develop its business model, based on the experience and qualification of its employees and optimal customer proximity.”

INCOS is scheduled to be merged with the DEKRA Material Testing (DMT) unit this year. The INCOS management will be retained in a leading position within the company. From an organisational standpoint, the business unit will be integrated into the newly created DEKRA service unit “Material Testing and Inspection”, in which the worldwide material testing business of DEKRA is bundled.

The acquisition is subject to the approval of the German Federal Cartel Office (“Bundeskartellamt”).
