Air Products Expands Presence in China

Air Products announced that it has added to its growing China position with the signing of a 15-year on-site supply contract for bulk gases and Cleaned Dried Air (CDA) for a new six-inch wafer fab owned and operated by SinoMOS Semiconductor (Ningbo), Inc. As part of the contract, Air Products will supply a 20 High Purity nitrogen (HPN) nitrogen generator, a CDA system, and other bulk gas delivery systems to SinoMOS' fab, which is located in the Ningbo Free Trade Zone in the People's Republic of China. In addition to the SinoMOS contract, Air Products also announced that one of the contractors performing the in-fab gas distribution at SinoMOS has placed a separate order with San Fu Gases Company (San Fu)-in which Air Products has a 70 percent controlling interest-for 31 gas cabinets and racks. Han Yang Technology (HYT), in which Air Products has a controlling interest and serves as the Asian hub for the company's Electronics Equipment Solutions business unit, will manufacture the equipment.

In 1999, Air Products acquired a majority interest in Han Yang Technology (HYT)-Korea's leading specialty gas equipment manufacturer for the semiconductor industry. The move enabled Air Products to leverage HYT's local business and customer knowledge to further expand its regional and worldwide supply capability.

Air Products and San Fu forged a joint venture agreement back in 1987. Fifteen years later, San Fu is a full service industrial gas and chemical company with a broad product portfolio supplying specialty gases, electronic piping and equipment, liquid/bulk gases, pipeline/on-site gases and chemicals to the Taiwan marketplace. The majority of the company's customer base is in electronics, chemical process industries, metals and merchant markets.
