VWR INTERNATIONAL AND LABVELOCITY, INC. SIGN COMPREHENSIVE TECHNOLOGY LICENSE AGREEMENT

18-Jul-2001

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. and West Chester, PA -- July 17, 2001 -- LabVelocity, Inc. (www.labvelocity.com) and VWR International (www.vwrsp.com) today announced a three-year software licensing agreement. LabVelocity, Inc. is the leading provider of content management solutions to the Life Science market, and VWR International is the largest global distributor of laboratory supplies, chemicals, and equipment. Under this agreement, VWR is licensing LabVelocity’s MarketCatalyst™ suite of software for their strategic global content management and Web site initiatives.

LabVelocity’s product content and Web site management technologies will enable VWR to meet their suppliers’ critical need to cost-effectively provide detailed and up-to-date product information to scientists throughout each step of the process of researching, evaluating, and selecting laboratory products to be purchased. LabVelocity technologies will be used to accelerate the transfer of information between VWR, its suppliers and pharma/biotech/academic research customers, providing increased visibility for suppliers on VWRSP.com and at customer accounts. These technologies enable VWR’s customers to identify, evaluate, and select products faster and more accurately, leading to increased productivity and satisfaction for the customer and accelerated sales and increased breadth of orders for VWR.

LabVelocity’s MarketCatalyst suite of products for manufacturers and distributors of life science and research products optimizes the exchange of information between suppliers and their customers. LabVelocity’s software and services allow suppliers to manage, update, and distribute product information in real-time through the Internet in standardized XML formats enriched with parametric and contextual information for attribute-based searching and product identification.

“We examined all of the available content management systems on the market and chose the LabVelocity MarketCatalyst system,” said Kevin Leak, VWR’s Vice President of Marketing. “LabVelocity’s management team and its technology uniquely address the true needs of the life science market. Licensing this technology will enable VWR and its suppliers to increase sales and cost-efficiently manage content on our Web site while meeting customer demands for richer content and research-based product identification and selection. Scientists ordering through our Web site will be able to access LabVelocity’s unique data structure and search technologies with contextually linked relevant protocols and supporting reference materials. The end result is a highly flexible, yet robust, research product-information platform that supports our current and future needs.”

“LabVelocity technologies revolutionize the way scientists identify and evaluate research products,” said Erik Lium, Ph.D., president and co-founder of LabVelocity, “and LabVelocity and VWR are working together to offer suppliers a major competitive advantage. Scientists face increasing pressures in managing the rapidly expanding volume of information in this market, especially with the emergence of genomics and proteomics. A crucial priority in the life science market is acquiring the right information at the right time in the decision-making process. LabVelocity technologies were designed and developed by experienced life scientists who understand R&D customers’ need for richer product information accessible by functional characteristics, not product name or catalog number.”
