LGC plans to expand its range of forensic services to include the analysis of blood patterns, footwear marks, fire investigation and fire debris, and trace and transfer evidence. A new state-of-the-art laboratory will be established in the North West at LGC's existing premises at The Heath in Runcorn. This is expected to be fully operational in September 2005 and will support the needs of customers across England and Wales.
The purpose built facilities will house reception, storage, laboratory and dark room areas. The three search laboratories will be of clean room standard and contamination free, and fully equipped for the examination of clothing and household items including furnishings for blood pattern analysis, footwear marks, trace and transfer evidence (paint, glass, fibres, building materials) and fire investigation and fire debris analysis. The dark room will enable the use of chemiluminescent reagents and photography as crime scene tools.
Dr Nigel Law, LGC's Chief Executive, said: "LGC has made steady progress in expanding the forensic aspects of its operations in Runcorn. We are committed to ongoing significant investment in our forensic service portfolio. This most recent expansion is opening up new opportunities at LGC for senior reporting forensic chemists and biologists to play an influential role in the launch and development of the new laboratories, and in the shaping of our future forensic services in the North West of England."
