Dow Chemical appointed New Vice President

16-Nov-2004

The Dow Chemical Company announced the appointment of Charles J. Kalil to Corporate Vice President and General Counsel, succeeding Richard L. Manetta. Kalil will report to Andrew Liveris, President and Chief Executive Officer. Manetta will continue as Corporate Vice President and Special Counsel to the CEO, with ongoing responsibility supporting Dow's position with respect to asbestos legislation, reporting to Liveris.

"Chuck has played a key role in several significant legal issues for Dow and we are pleased to recognize these contributions by naming him General Counsel," said Liveris. "Like most Fortune 100 companies, Dow has its share of legal challenges, and we are continuing our long standing tradition of naming a general counsel who has not only breadth and depth of experience, but the leadership qualities necessary to effectively manage those challenges."

Kalil, a 24-year Dow veteran, has been Associate General Counsel and Director for Corporate Financial Law, Mergers and Acquisitions, Affiliated Companies and Insurance and Global Litigation. He was also responsible for all Legal matters related to Dow Corning.

Manetta joined Dow in July 2001, after a successful 23-year career as an attorney with Ford Motor Co. "In a very short period of time, Dick has done an outstanding job for Dow, meeting the multitude of objectives and challenges he faced coming in," said Liveris. "I have been especially impressed with his efforts in support of the asbestos issue, both from a litigation and a legislative standpoint. Dick has worked tirelessly with our elected officials in Washington to try to effect a resolution to the asbestos crisis facing our country. It is our hope that, in the next legislative session, we will see that come to pass."
