SABIC Europe appoints new CEO

Sabic is pleased to announce that Boy Litjens has been appointed Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Managing Board of SABIC Europe, effective as of September 9, 2006. In this role, he will succeed Frans Noteborn, who will retire after having led SABIC Europe as CEO since the acquisition in 2002.

Boy Litjens is 54 years old, and holds a degree in Economics from Tilburg University (The Netherlands). He joined DSM in 1988 and held several management and executive positions in General Management, Control, Finance and Strategic Planning, amongst others as Managing Director of DSM Resins France and eventually as Business Unit Director, Polypropylenes. After SABIC acquired DSM's petrochemical activities in 2002, Litjens joined the Managing Board of Directors of SABIC Europe as Chief Operating Officer.

Mohamed Al-Mady, SABIC Vice-Chairman and CEO said, "Boy Litjens has broad and extensive experience in the petrochemical business. He knows the company very well and has the right skills to further develop SABIC Europe on its way to be the leading petrochemicals company in Europe".

Succeeding Litjens, is Abdullah Bazid who is appointed as Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director, Chemicals and Intermediates. Abdullah Bazid joined SABIC in 1979 and has since played a key role in implementing major petrochemical projects for SABIC. He was instrumental in SABIC's major acquisitions in Europe, the DSM's petrochemical business, which subsequently led to the establishment of SABIC Europe.

The Managing Board of SABIC Europe will also include Koos Van Haasteren who is the Managing Director, Polymers.
