Dow Joins United States Climate Action Partnership

19-Apr-2007

The Dow Chemical Company announced that the company has joined the United States Climate Action Partnership. Launched in January 2007, the USCAP is an alliance of major businesses and leading climate and environmental groups that have come together to call on the federal government to enact legislation requiring significant reductions of greenhouse gas emissions. Dow Chairman and CEO Andrew Liveris will join the USCAP CEO Board and Dow will be represented on the Steering Committee.

The USCAP developed a set of principles and recommendations to guide the formulation of a regulated economy-wide, market-driven approach to climate protection. The six principles, outlined in the "Call for Action" are:

1. Account for the global dimensions of climate change;

2. Create incentives for technology innovation;

3. Be environmentally effective;

4. Create economic opportunity and advantage;

5. Be fair to sectors disproportionately impacted; and

6. Reward early action.
