ICO Polymers signs agreement with Ciba Specialty Chemicals

21-Oct-2002
ICO polymers, Inc., a wholly- owned subsidiary of ICO, Inc. (NASDAQ: ICOC) , recently signed a supply and cooperation agreement with Ciba specialty chemicals Inc. for joint development of a new range of speciality additive packages for rotomolding applications. "This month ICO begins producing new product modifiers based on Ciba additives," said Sara Shirer, ICO's director of international marketing. "Ciba sets the global standard in polymer effects," Shirer said. "The products we've developed with Ciba for rotomolding dramatically expand our customers' options." Through cooperation with Ciba Specialty Chemicals, ICO will introduce UV stabilisers, anti-statics, anti-microbials, anti-algals and other components to the ICORENE a la carte range. "As a partner, Ciba has terrific depth in their product line-up," said John Steele, ICO's director of global research and development. "We're exploring and evaluating the full range of options we can co-develop for rotomolders." "For rotational moulders, the availability of these additives in polymer powder is a major innovation," said Judy van de Langkruis, global head of Industry Segment Molding in Ciba Specialty Chemicals' Plastic Additives Segment. "In the rotational moulding industry, it's been difficult to obtain some of these effects that are widely available to injection moulders," she said. "ICO's global coverage allows us to reach this market effectively, and the ICORENE a la carte platform offers us an avenue to accommodate specific customer needs. Rotational moulders will now have access to the full range of Ciba effects to enhance the performance of their products."
