WACKER Brings New Silicone Emulsion Plant on Stream in China

09-Mar-2004

Munich / Shanghai - The WACKER Group has brought a new silicone emulsion plant on stream in Shanghai. In the new plant, the Group's WACKER SILICONES business division is producing silicone emulsions based on silicone fluids, antifoam emulsions and silicone resins for the Chinese market since early 2004. The new facility cuts delivery lead times for the region's customers greatly and will also offer them silicone products better optimized to local requirements. The plant - near the Shanghai Technical Center that opened in 2000 - has a capacity of several thousand metric tons per year. It is WACKER's first silicone production plant in China.

In constructing the new production plant, WACKER is reflecting the increased importance of the Chinese silicone market, which experts estimate is experiencing double-digit growth - well above the global average. The market volume, which is currently about USD 700 million, is expected to rise to over USD 1 billion by 2007.

Silicone fluid emulsions are used in many different applications, for example in the textile, cosmetic or petrochemical industries. They are often essential for ensuring that products have the required properties and that production processes run smoothly. Antifoam emulsions are used as highly effective process auxiliaries and ingredients of liquid detergents They are also used for improving water repellency.
