Arkema Speciality Polyamides : Price Increase and Asian Growth

07-Apr-2005

Arkema has announced that volumes for its specialty Rilsan® and Orgalloy® polyamides grew significantly in 2004 and anticipates record demand for these products in 2005. Most new volume in the specialty polyamides business is coming from developments in transportation and oil & gas applications.

Although 2004 price adjustments helped the company to partly offset rising costs, Arkema is experiencing continuing strong pressure from raw material, energy and transportation costs. As a result, Arkema is implementing a new price increase on Rilsan® and Orgalloy®. This price increase is being implemented in the 2Q 2005, and is focusing particularly on grades bearing high raw material and supply chain cost pressure, such as small volume grades and small size deliveries.

Additionally, due to particularly strong growth of sales in Asia, Arkema is actively studying the possibility to produce Rilsan® on its Changshu site (Shanghaï), which is already producing other speciality copolyamides for the Asian market.
