17-Jan-2006

The Peru LNG project, developed by a consortium comprising Hunt Oil (50%), SK Corporation (30%) and Repsol YPF (20%), contemplates the construction and operation of an LNG plant in Pampa Melchorita, due to go into operation by 2009. This plant will have a nominal production capacity of 4 million tons per annum of liquefied natural gas (LNG), to be marketed on the West Coast of the USA and Mexico.

The Peru LNG project will be supplied with natural gas from the Camisea field, in which Repsol YPF holds a 10% stake. It is also a partner in Transportadora de Gas del Perú, S.A. (TGP), the company distributing natural gas from Camisea via the Transandino pipeline.

Antonio Brufau, Chairman and CEO of Repsol YPF together, with the President of Peru, Alejandro Toledo, attended the presentation of the site on which the Pampa Melchorita natural gas liquefaction plant is to be built (169 km. South of Lima, Peru) as part of the Peru LNG project. During the presentation, Antonio Brufau reiterated Repsol YPF's investment commitment in Peru, where it has made an outlay of nearly $1 billion dollars over recent years, and confirmed the company's intention to remain in the country.
