Air Liquide begins operations in Kuwait

Air Liquide announced the signing of a 20-year contract between its subsidiary Shuaiba oxygen and EQUATE Petrochemical Company. EQUATE Petrochemical Company is a joint venture between the Kuwaiti company Petrochemical Industries Company (P.I.C.), and Union Carbide (a subsidiary of Dow Chemical).

This new contract provides for the supply of oxygen, nitrogen and compressed air for the new EQUATE site in Shuaiba. This site includes an ethylene production facility, two polyethylene production facilities and a glycol ethylene production unit.

In order to meet the terms of this contract, Shuaiba Oxygen will invest nearly 70 million euros in an air separation unit with a capacity of 1,500 tonnes/day of oxygen, which will be commissioned during the third quarter of 2008.
