Rohm and Haas Company
(NYSE: ROH) announced today the acquisition of the flexible
packaging
adhesives business of Technical
coatings Co., a
subsidiary of Benjamin Moore & Co. of New Jersey. The
transaction price was not disclosed.
Technical Coatings’ flexible packaging adhesives business includes
the development, production and distribution of a full line of cold
seal adhesives, marketed under the Coseal® trademark. The
primary application of such adhesives is in flexible packaging, used
mainly in the
food and medical industries. The Coseal® brand of
cold seal adhesives is widely recognized by flexible packaging
manufacturers in North America.
“This bolt-on acquisition gives us a position in the fast growing
cold seal market. It is a critical addition to our portfolio, in line
with our goal to be a total solutions provider to packaging
converters," said Nick Gutwein, Vice President and Global Business
Director of the Adhesives and
sealants Business. "No other
adhesives company can offer such a broad range of technologies in
adhesives, coatings, and
resins for the flexible packaging industry
as we do," Gutwein added.
The Technical Coatings flexible packaging adhesives business will
be integrated into the Packaging and Converting strategic business
unit (SBU) of the Rohm and Haas Adhesives and Sealants
business.
"The addition of this business will strengthen Rohm and Haas
Company’s ability to meet customers’ needs, reinforce our position
with our key converter customers in North America, and further
complement our global cold seal offering," said Mark Douglas,
General Manager, North America for the Adhesives and Sealants
business. "Customers who purchase Coseal® products will also
benefit from the know-how exchange with our other flexible
packaging products lines," he added.
Rohm and Haas will provide production, development and technical
support for Coseal® cold seal products from Rohm and Haas
facilities. These facilities include the Midwest Technical Center in
Woodstock, Illinois, and a premier adhesives manufacturing site in
Ringwood, Illinois.
