Degussa GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of the RAG Group, and Silicium de Provence (Silpro) have signed a letter of intent (LOI) for the development of a joint fence to fence operation at Silpro's site in Saint Auban (France). The factory will have an initial capacity of more than 3,000 tons per year of high purity polysilicon for the photovoltaic market. For manufacturing high purity polysilicon for maximum cell efficiencies, Silpro has chosen the Siemens deposition process. In this process, polysilicon is deposited from chlorosilanes. In the planned set-up Degussa would build a chlorosilanes production plant at St. Auban. This facility would supply Silpro with the high purity raw material Siridion® Chlorosilane. In the coming months Silpro and Degussa will continue to work on the basic engineering.
