Aker Kvaerner wins Purified Terephthalic Acid project in Portugal

Aker Kvaerner has been awarded a contract to provide the engineering, procurement services and construction management for Artenius' new mega Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) plant, to be built in Sines, Portugal. The contract value to Aker Kvaerner is approximately GBP 20 million.

The new plant will produce 700,000 tpa of PTA. The project commences immediately with construction scheduled to be complete in quarter 4 2009 and the plant on line early quarter 1 2010. Aker Kvaerner Powergas India in Mumbai is providing the detailed engineering, whilst Technoedif in Portugal will be working as sub-contractor to Aker Kvaerner providing engineering support and construction management assistance.

"This is the fourth PTA project that Aker Kvaerner has been awarded in the last year. We look forward to working with Artenius and our Portuguese partner, Technoedif, on this important PTA facility for Europe," said Johan Cnossen, President of AK Process, Aker Kvaerner's process business.
