Agilent Technologies announces real-time monitoring of fuel cell processes

01-Jul-2002

Agilent Technologies Inc. today announced a new, real-time gas analyzer that helps fuel cell developers understand and optimize fuel cell systems, lower fuel cell costs and improve process efficiencies. The Agilent 5000A real-time quadrupole mass spectrometer-based gas analyzer determines fuel cell gases and impurities in two to five seconds, enabling continuous chemical monitoring of incoming fuels, processed fuels, reformer output, partial Oxidation system gases, and fuel cell stack electro-chemical reaction gases.

The accelerated pace of fuel cell development - spurred by the potential for reduced emissions, greater efficiency and less reliance on fossil fuels - places new demand for fast chemical measurement diagnostic and monitoring tools. This system has a two-stage gas interface that connects easily to all fuel cell processes for detailed qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis. Operators can monitor and capture rapid transients that other monitoring equipment might miss. Customized control charting and data logging software offer continuous process analysis. The analyzer provides good linearity for hydrogen and other fuel cell gases over a wide concentration range. Impurities such as hydrogen sulfide and other organo sulfur compounds can be monitored at the parts-per-billion level.
