GREAT LAKES ANNOUNCES ANTIMONY OXIDE PRICE INCREASES

18-Jul-2002

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - July 17, 2002 - Great Lakes Chemical Corporation today announced that effective for shipments after August 1, 2002, where contracts allow, the company will increase the price of all grades of antimony trioxide by $0.14/lb in the Americas and by $300/MT in Europe and the Asia Pacific region. The price for other antimony derivatives, sold under the trade names TMS, Timonox, TRUTINT and MICROFINE, will also increase dependent upon antimony content.

The new pricing reflects recent increases in the London Metal Bulletin (LMB) value for antimony metal and its impact on the cost of finished antimony derivatives. Great Lakes announced price increases for antimony trioxide and antimony derivatives in March and May 2002 following similar increases in the LMB.

The LMB value generally follows the supply and demand trends of raw materials. The LMB's current increase reflects the continued impact to the raw material market due largely to events such as mine and smelter shutdowns in China. Further tightening of raw material supply is anticipated through the balance of the year.
