The Dow Chemical Company, Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras), Brazil's state-controlled oil company, and Brazilian chemical company Elekeiroz signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Feb. 16 to study the viability of constructing an acrylic acid complex in Brazil. The agreement between the three parties is for the initiation and completion of a study that will evaluate the world-competitiveness and the technical and economic feasibility of a potential future venture.
"Dow is concurrently investigating several growth opportunities for its Acrylates business to determine whether they meet the company's investment criteria, in terms of efficient raw material integration, low-cost logistics, and economies of scale," said a Dow spokesperson.
