Varian, Inc. Names Janice Tschida Director of Life Sciences
Varian, Inc. (Nasdaq:VARI) today appointed Janice Tschida to director of life sciences, overseeing the company's continued drive to develop instruments and laboratory consumable supplies for the life sciences industry.
Tschida has been with Varian for more than 20 years and has held a variety of positions, including product and technical support management within chromatography. She was most recently worldwide marketing and sales manager for Varian's nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) line of equipment.
She is also responsible for the company's strategic BioSolutions(TM) initiative for its Scientific Instruments segment, aimed at quickly and cost effectively providing bio-molecular researchers with turnkey, application-specific solutions to challenges in genomics, proteomics, and drug discovery.
Varian's BioSolutions products draw on Varian, Inc.'s core competencies and existing product lines, creating new and better tools for molecular biologists who need complete application-specific solutions that are simple, reliable and predictable. To date, Varian has unveiled three BioSolutions, including the Helix System, TOP and BioMelt(TM) (http://www.varianinc.com/biosolutions).

Rogerson, senior vice president of Scientific Instruments, Varian, Inc. "Our BioSolutions initiative is strong and growing as we build from existing scientific instrument technologies and modify them for life science applications."
Tschida began her career in 1979 as a chromatography applications chemist for Varian Associates, Inc. (Varian's predecessor company). Tschida received her bachelor of science degree in chemistry and conducted graduate work in biochemistry at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.
