IRGACURE 250 is a new iodonium salt for cationic curing of epoxy, oxetane, and vinyl ether formulations. Recommended applications are white base coatings, flexo inks, screen inks, adhesives, overprint varnishes. Thanks to its optimized combination of properties, IRGACURE 250 is ideal for use in thick and highly pigmented systems.

Benefits for the user include high value in use, as the product is active at low concentrations and can be combined with a photosensitizer; further benefits of IRGACURE 250 are the high line speeds that can be attained, even in highly pigmented applications, and the absence of hazardous cleavage products. IRGACURE 250 has high reactivity and is readily sensitized via electron transfer reaction. It ensures low post-cure color, even after postbake at higher temperatures, contains no heavy metal and has no unsubstituted aryl ring.

The product will be available in bulk amounts by mid 2002; sampling quantities can be ordered now through Ciba Specialty Chemicals’ local sales organizations.

IRGACURE 250 is just one of the innovative products Ciba Specialty Chemicals is presenting at RadTech 2002, from April 29 – May 1, in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. Experts from Ciba will be pleased to provide further information on this and other innovative products, processes and services that together provide customers with comprehensive, integrated solutions for UV curing.
