MDL Available Chemicals Directory Adopts Quarterly Release

05-Aug-2002

SAN LEANDRO, Calif - Aug. 1, 2002 - MDL Information Systems, Inc. (MDL), the leader in discovery informatics for chemistry and the Life Sciences, has announced that its electronic directory of chemical supplier information, MDL(R) Available chemicals Directory, will be issued quarterly beginning fall 2002. The more frequent release schedule will allow for timely updates of supplier catalog information in the database, providing customers with the most current and comprehensive chemical sourcing information available.

MDL Available Chemicals Directory contains over one million available products representing nearly 400,000 unique, research-grade and bulk chemicals from 658 suppliers. The database, the most trusted, established, and largest structure-searchable database of its kind, includes information on product purities, forms, grades, available quantities, and prices, along with supplier and distributor contact information. It is available in five formats, including a relational format, and is available with 2D structures or 3D molecular models. Using the database, scientists can readily access availability information from their desktops -- with minimal interruption to workflow.

'Our goal is to continually improve desktop access to sourcing information for chemical precursors,' said Marc Beban, Ph.D., product manager for MDL Available Chemicals Directory. 'By adopting a quarterly release of the database, MDL has demonstrated its commitment to meeting customers' needs for simplified access to timely, accurate information.'

The move to a quarterly release is part of a concurrent, ongoing directive to extend Available Chemicals Directory's position as the premier source for chemical supplier information. MDL is engaged with chemical suppliers in joint efforts to facilitate and streamline chemical sourcing. By directly providing electronic catalog data to MDL, suppliers ensure faster, more accurate updates of their catalogs in Available Chemicals Directory. A corresponding exchange with suppliers of the MDL numbers that identify compounds in Available Chemicals Directory allows suppliers to dramatically improve the ordering process from mutual customers. These cooperative efforts also open the door to future collaborations between the companies as they seek ways to improve the chemical sourcing process.
