Crompton Petroleum Additives Introduces Petronate® NNH, A New Sodium Sulfonate

05-Aug-2003

Crompton Corporation's Petroleum Additives business has introduced Petronate® NNH, a new patent-pending high molecular weight (HMW) sodium sulfonate that is a cost-effective corrosion inhibitor for use in soluble and semi-synthetic oils. It is designed to provide corrosion protection previously offered by the HMW sodium sulfonate from Shell Martinez. The product also offers excellent emulsification performance properties when combined with low molecular weight sulfonates (e.g., Petronate HL).

Petronate NNH is based on Crompton's proprietary manufacturing technology, which does not result in the production of a mineral oil by-product. It will be manufactured in North America.

"This is a second step in our plan to help customers fill the sulfonate gap caused by the Martinez closing," said Paul Weinberg, Crompton Petroleum Additives global industrial oil additives market manager. Crompton Petroleum Additives announced earlier this year that it will increase sodium sulfonate production in Europe as a partial solution to the sulfonate shortage.

"We've been the leading marketer of natural sodium sulfonates for over 50 years with the majority of our sulfonates produced in Europe. The development and introduction of Petronate NNH reinforces our global leadership position in sodium sulfonates, and showcases our innovative technical capabilities and responsiveness to the fast-changing, critical requirements of the North American sulfonates marketplace," Weinberg added.
