In animal studies, PAL-287 was shown to reduce cocaine self-administration, yet produced relatively little stimulant effect when administered by itself, being a weaker stimulant than the comparison drug dexamphetamine. PAL-287 is now under development to see whether it is a useful substitute drug for treating stimulant addiction in humans.
