Eastman Chemical Company - Bayer Celebrate Twentieth Anniversary of Vivak® Sheet Materials

23-Oct-2001

Eastman Chemical Company and Bayer A.G. are celebrating a long and productive relationship that began twenty years ago. In 1981, Bayer's subsidiary, Sheffield plastics Inc. first introduced VIVAK copolyester sheet. Since that time Sheffield Plastics and Makroform, Bayer's European Sheet Subsidiary, have been pioneers and leaders in the growth and development of the global copolyester sheet market.

"The global success of VIVAK is a great example of the technology strength a supplier and customer can achieve by working together from a long established relationship base", states Dr. Phillip Griswold, vice president and general manager of Eastman Chemical Company's Specialty Plastics business. "VIVAK sheet is recognized around the world for its exceptional quality. We're working closely with Sheffield and Makroform, to leverage the VIVAK brand name while creating greater awareness of the many benefits offered by Eastman's specialty plastics."

"Due to the strong performance properties of copolyester, Bayer views VIVAK as a long-term strategic product, nicely complimenting our Makrolon PC product line," notes Karl-Heinz Wiebusch, General Manager of Bayer's Global Sheet Products Business. "It is Bayer's strategic intent as a recognized market leader to continue to grow the VIVAK business through market and product development."

One of the reasons for the global popularity of VIVAK sheet is its outstanding versatility. "Designers can achieve bold curves, complex shapes and intricate details without worrying about durability or fabrication costs," notes Pierre Colle, Chairman of Makroform. "VIVAK sheet has the impact strength, clarity and ease of fabrication that acrylic can't touch, and it's durable enough to withstand shipping and handling. In fact, it is one of the most cost-effective transparent plastics on the market today."

"Today, VIVAK sheet is the market leader in the point-of-purchase, store fixture and interior signage markets," says Dennis Duff, President of Sheffield Plastics. "We look forward to another 20 years of growth through a strong partnership with Eastman."
